Metrics Launch Checklist for 2026
Use this checklist to ship your metrics effort with confidence in 2026. Organized into three phases—Foundation, Execution, Launch & Review—so you always know what to do next. [launch guides](/resources/launch-guides) and [free tools](/tools) can accelerate each step.
Phase 01
Foundation
- c1critical1 day
Define goals and KPIs (Metrics)
Write down the core KPIs you'll measure: activation rate, retention curves, revenue per user or other key signals. Ground them in real baseline data.
- c2critical1 day
Identify target audience (Metrics)
Map your audience: are you measuring user engagement, business health, or support team efficiency? Different audiences need different KPI dashboards.
- c3critical1 day
Audit current state (Metrics)
Audit your current tracking setup. What events are you capturing? What's missing? What's broken in your analytics pipeline? Document gaps before implementation.
Phase 02
Execution
- c4critical1 day
Prioritize high-impact tasks (Metrics)
Rank your KPIs by impact on business decisions. Not all metrics are equally useful; focus on the few that guide strategy.
- c5high2-3 days
Assign owners and deadlines (Metrics)
Assign a DRI (directly responsible individual) to each metric and set a ship deadline. Metrics without owners get ignored.
- c6medium1 week
Set up tracking (Metrics)
Wire up event tracking in your product, backend or analytics tool. Test that data flows end-to-end before launch.
Phase 03
Launch & Review
- c7medium1 week
Ship and verify (Metrics)
Deploy your metrics dashboard and train the team to interpret results. Watch for obvious bugs in early data.
- c8critical1 day
Measure against KPIs (Metrics)
Measure actual numbers against your KPI targets. Document where you hit or missed and why.
- c9critical1 day
Iterate on results (Metrics)
Identify which metrics shifted and why. Iterate on tracking, dashboards or business strategy based on what the data reveals.
